The pre-Reformation church was appropriated to the Abbey of Jedburgh and was dedicated to St Cuthbert. Ministry began in 1562 in the person of George Fuird, minister. Aldcathie was united to Dalmeny by Commission of Parliament, 21 January 1618. From at least 1976 the session was within the jurisdiction of Edinburgh Presbytery, before which time it was within the jurisdiction of Linlithgow and Falkirk Presbytery from at least 1955. Previous to Linlithgow and Falkirk, the session was within the jurisdiction of Linlithgow Presbytery. The church is a good example of Norman ecclesiastical architecture and was restored in the period 1926-1935 when a tower was added. On 20 December 1974 the session linked with Abercorn. |
