There had existed in the village of Newhaven, prior to the reformation, a Chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary and at the reformation Newhaven became part of the parish of St Cuthbert's. The present day church of Newhaven was opened in 1836 and the parish was disjoined a number of years later in 1859 from St Cuthbert's, and erected into a parish, quoad sacra. In 1929 Newhaven became Newhaven-on Forth and in 1974 Newhaven-on-Forth united with the former United Free Church Session of Newhaven St Andrew's, under the previous title of Newhaven. After the union the former Newhaven St Andrew's Church ceased to be used as a place of worship. The Kirk Session has sat within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Edinburgh throughout its existence. |
