Blackbraes lay within the parish of Falkirk until 1648, in which year it was included within the bounds of newly-created parish of Muiravonside. In 1866 a church was built at Blackbraes (as a Chapel of Ease) and subsequently the Court of Teinds decided that a parish quoad sacra should be erected there. This new parish was disjoined from Muiravonside on 14 July 1890. It was linked with Shieldhill from 1943 until 1957, then linked with Polmont South Church (Brightons) from 16 Feb 1958 until 10 September 1961. Blackbraes then united with Shieldhill on 1 Nov 1963 under the name of Blackbraes and Sheildhill (see CH2/1620).
The kirk session sat within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Linlithgow, later Linlithgow and Falkirk and, following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Falkirk. |
