The church of Tarbolton, Ayrshire, originally served a medieval parish whose rectory formed one of the prebends of Glasgow Cathedral. It was united with Barnweil in 1673. The church was rebuilt in 1821. After 1929 it was known for a time as Tarbolton Old, but in 1943 united with a former United Free church (Tarbolton Erskine) as Tarbolton. The charge, now Annbank linked with Tarbolton, is in Ayr presbytery and was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr until the reorganisation of 1929, thereafter in the synod of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
