Auchinleck was a medieval parish lying about half way between Ayr and Kilmarnock, and served by Paisley Abbey. The parish church was repaired and enlarged in 1754, and in 1844 a new church was built on a site adjoining its predecessor. The parish had a mission chapel at Darnconner. In 1929 the congregation changed its name to Auchinleck Barony Church of Scotland to differentiate it from the former United Free charge of Auchinleck Peden. It is in Ayr presbytery and was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr until the reorganisation of 1929, thereafter in the synod of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
