St George?s Church, Glasgow, was the successor to the former Wynd Church, originally erected in King Street in the heart of the old town centre, in 1687. This building later fell vacant and was restored by the town council in 1764. In 1807 a new burgh church was erected at the western fringe of the city, in Buchanan Street, facing George Street. This was St George?s Parish Church, or the West Church, as it was sometimes known. The former Wynd Church congregation migrated there in that year. In 1940 the parish terminated on uniting with Tron St Anne?s as St George?s Tron. It was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
