The Kirk Session of Helensburgh originates from mission work which first began there in 1839. A church was built a number of years later in 1847 and the parish of Helensburgh was disjoined from Row and erected as a parish, quoad sacra, in 1862. In 1956 Helensburgh Old Parish Church united with the former United Free Congregation of Helensburgh St Andrew's to form the session of Helensburgh Old and St Andrew's. Helensburgh The West Kirk was later established in 1981 by the union of Helensburgh Old and St Andrew's, and Helensburgh St Brides. The kirk session has sat within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Dumbarton throughout its existence. |
