Coylton, Ayrshire, was a medieval parish pertaining to the Chapel Royal, Stirling. Later it was for a time united with Riccarton, but was disjoined in 1647. The church was rebuilt in 1776 and again sixty years later. It is now linked with Drongan, and was in Ayr presbytery and in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr until the reorganisation of 1929, thereafter in the synod of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
