The church of Girvan, Ayrshire, originally served a medieval parish appropriated to Crossraguel Abbey, and then known as Invergarvan. The church was rebuilt in 1770 and again in 1883. The charge, became known as Girvan Old in 1929, to distinguish it from other Girvan churches that came back into the Established Church from the United Free Church. Girvan North united with Girvan St Andrew?s in 1973 to form Girvan North Parish Church., which sat in Ayr presbytery and was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr until the reorganisation of 1929, thereafter in the synod of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
