The church of Kilmartin, which had anciently been dedicated to St Martin, was built in 1835 to replace an earlier church, dating from 1789. In addition to Kilmartin Parish Church there was also a mission chapel founded within the parish boundaries at Ford of Loch Awe. In 1967 Kilmartin was linked with Craignish, however this arrangement was terminated in 1974 in favour of a link with Glassary, and in 1982 the two parishes were united under the name of Glassary and Kilmartin. The name of the session was later changed in 1997 to Glassary and Kilmartin and Ford. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Inveraray, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of South Argyle. |
