During the 16th century the ancient parish of Stenscholl was united to that of Kilmaluag (now called Kilmuir) and a Parliamentary church was erected at Stenscholl in 1828. The parish of Stenscholl was later disjoined from Kilmuir and Snizort by the Court of Teinds in 1847 and once more erected as an independent parish, quoad sacra. In addition to the parish church there was also a mission church erected within the parish at Culnancnoc, which united with the former United Free Church mission of Staffin in 1940. Kilmuir formed a link with Stenscholl in 1974, under the ministry of Rev A. Mackay, minister at Kilmuir, and the two parishes were once again united in 1981, under the name of Kilmuir and Stenscholl. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Skye, until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Lochcarron-Skye. |
