The kirk session of Towie was anciently known as Kinbathoch and there existed of old within the parish of Kinbathoch five chapels at, Nether Towie, Kinbatoch, Ley, Balnaboth and Sinnahard. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1567 in the person of David Arrot, reader. Towie became vacant in 1929 when the Rev. George Porteous McWilliams was transferred to Beath, the vacancy however was filled in 1930 when Towie Parish church was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Towie East. The former Towie East church was later sold in 1950. In 1955 Glenbuchat formed a link with Towie under the name of Glenbuchat-Towie and a further union was established in 1996 with Auchindor Kildrummy and Corgartt Strathdon to form the session of Upper Donside. The kirk session sat within the presbytery of Alford until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 when it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
