The ancient church of Muthill, which is thought to date back as far as the 12th century and which now lies in ruins, was dedicated to St Patrick and formerly existed as a prebend belonging to the Dean of Dunblane. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1564 in the person of Thomas Drummond. In 1826 the foundation stone of the present day church was laid and the building was opened for worship two years later in 1828. In 1947, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Muthill Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Muthill St John's. After the local union the old Parish church remained in use as the place of public worship. In 1984 Muthill was linked with Trinity Gask and Kinkell. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Auchterarder until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 when it became part of the Presbytery of Perth. |
