Prior to the reformation the church of Linlithgow belonged to the Priory of St Andrew's and it was dedicated to St Michael. The parish of Binny was joined to Linlithgow St Michael's in 1564. In 1641 a Second Charge was erected in Linlithgow which continued until 1751, when it was declared by the Lords of Session to be no longer of benefit and was accordingly suppressed. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow, later of Linlithgow and Falkirk and, following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of West Lothian. |
