From around 1869 the Rev. James Robertson ministered to workers and others connected with the Granton harbour area, however it wasn't until 1877 that a church was erected in the area. This church was later was given to the Church of Scotland in 1889, along with an endowment of £50, by the Duke of Buccleuch and in that same year the Parish of Granton was disjoined from Cramond, Dean and St Bernard's and erected into a separate parish quoad sacra. In 1936 a new church was opened at Boswall Parkway, the foundation stone having been laid in 1834 by the Duke of York (later King George IV). After 1936 the old church buildings were retained for use as a church hall until the old church at Granton Harbour was sold in 1960. The Kirk Session of Granton sits within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
