The church of Borgue, which had once belonged to Dryburgh Abbey, was united in 1670 with the parishes of Sennick and Kirkandrews and the united parish took Borgue as its name. In 1933, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Borgue Parish Church was joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Borgue St John's. Borgue was later linked in 1977 with Tongland with Twynholm, however this linkage was terminated in 1988, and a further link was established in 1990 with Anworth and Girthorn. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
