The parish of Glenshee was disjoined from Kirkmichael and Strathardail and erected as a separate parish, quoad sacra, on the 24th November 1858. Prior to the erection of the parish there had existed a chapel at Glenshee in which the minister of Kirkmichael conducted services every four or five weeks. The present day church was built in 1831. In 1941 Glenshee united with Cray to form the session of Glenshee and Cray and a further union followed with Persie and Netherton in 1953 under the name of Glenshee and Glenericht. Following the two unions the churches of Glenshee, Cray and Netherton continued in use and the church of Persie was sold. In 1978 a union was established with Kirkmichael and Straloch to form the session of Kirkmichael, Straloch and Glenshee and following a period of continued vacancy between 1994 and 1998 a link was formed in 1998 with Rattray. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dunkeld and later of Meigle, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dunkeld and Meigle. |
