The medieval church was appropriated to the Augustinian Priory of St Mary on Iona. On 27 February 1450 it was designated St Finnoga's (St Finan's). Ministry began in 1621 in the person of Hew (or, Ewen) McLean, minister. For the majority of its existence the session was within the jurisdiction of Mull Presbytery, but after 1976 was within the jurisdiction of Lorn and Mull Presbytery. On 31 July 1618, the parishes of Kirkapol and Sorobie on Tiree were united with the session. A Parliamentary chapel served by a resident missionary, was built in 1802. On 15 March 1865, the parish of Coll was disjoined quoad omnia from Kirkapol and Sorobie. The session was reduced to Mission Station on 29 May 1972 and the congregation united with Tiree Hylipol under the name of Tiree and Coll. The union with Tiree was terminated on 29 August 1986 in favour of a linkage. That linkage was terminated on 30 April 1994 and a continued vacancy was declared. |
