The Gaelic Church, formerly known as South Church, was built in 1791, and opened as a chapel-of-ease the following year. However, the position of minister became vacant in 1843, when its minister at the time, Rev Angus McBean left to join the Free Church. It wasn't until 1853 that a new minister was appointed, and in 1855 Full Status was given by the Court of Teinds. A union with Greenock West took place on 27 April 1966; the united charge taking the name of Greenock The old Kirk. A further union took place with Greenock St Mark's Greenbank Church on 30 Sep 1987 to form Greenock St Luke's Church. |
