The old church of Comrie was dedicated to St Kessog and formerly belonged to the Abbey of Paisley. During the 16th century the ancient parishes of Tullichetil and Dundurn were joined to Comrie, however in 1894 Dundurn was severed once again. Ministry of the Kirk Session of Comrie is recorded from 1567 in the person of Duncan Comrie, reader. The present day parish church was built in 1805 on the site of an earlier building. In 1956 Comrie Old Parish Church was united with the former United Free Church session of Comrie St Kessog's under the name of Comrie Old and St Kessog's. A further union was established in 1964 between Comrie Old and St Kessog's and Monzievard and Strowan to form the session of Comrie and Strowan. After the union Comrie Old Church was converted for use as a Youth Center. In 1979 Comrie and Strowan was linked with Dundurn. The Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Auchterarder until the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 when it became part of the Presbytery of Perth. |
