In 1640 the parish of Monkland was divided into two, that of Old Monkland and of New Monkland. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1655 in the person of Ludovic Smervell. In addition to the parish church, which was rebuilt in 1777, there also existed within the parish boundaries a mission chapel at Glenboig. In 1977 New Monkland, later referred to as Airdrie: New Monkland was linked with Greengairs. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
