The parish church of Kilmorack was dedicated to St. Moroc and prior to the reformation there existed within the bounds of the parish the priory of St. John, which was founded in 1230 by John Bisset of Lovat. Ministry of the session is recorded form 1560 in the person of Sir John Nicholson. In 1932, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Kilmorack Parish church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Kilmorack East. After the union both churches continued in use until 1974 when the old parish church was closed. There also existed a mission church within the parish at Beauly which was sold to Inverness County Council in 1954. In 1979 Kilmorack formed a union with Erchless under the name of Kilmorack and Erchless. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dingwall, later Chanonry and Dingwall, and following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Inverness. |
