It is thought that St Drostan established his mission at Aberdour in around the year 580 and the parish church was dedicated to him in later years. Ministry of the session, which was formerly a prebend of Aberdeen, is recorded from 1560 in the person of John Ramsay. The old church was closed in 1818 to make way for the new church building which was erected at the north end of the village of Aberdour. In 1954 Tyrie formed a link with Aberdour St. Drostan's, however this arrangement was terminated in 1995 in favour of linkage with New Pitsligo. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Deer, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the presbytery of Buchan. |
