The church of Cromarty was dedicated to St. Benet and the site where the old church once stood is now covered over by the sea. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1560 in the person of John Anderson. In 1934, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Cromarty Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Cromarty West. After the union both churches continued in use. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chanonry, later of Chanonry and Dingwall and, following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Ross. |
