Edinburgh, Dean Kirk Session was disjoined from St Cuthbert's and erected into a parish quoad sacra by the General Assembly on the 30th May 1836. Dean Church was later erected by the Court of Teinds in 1870. The first Parish Church had been opened in 1836, originally as Water of Leith Chapel of St Cuthbert's, and a new building was later erected in 1903. Ministry of the session of Dean is recorded from 1836 in the person of James Keith Hay. At the Disruption in 1843 some of the congregation, along with the minister, broke away from Dean Parish Church to form the session of Dean Free Church. Dean Kirk Session sits within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
