The church of Contin is thought to have been founded by St Malrubh and was formerly a prebend of the Cathedral of Fortrose. During the sixteenth century Contin was united with the old parish of Strathgarve. The parish of Carnoch was disjoined from Contin in 1864 and erected as an independent parish but in 1960 the parishes were once more joined when a union was formed with Carnoch-Strathconon to form the parish of Contin-Strathconon. A further union followed in 1989 when Contin-Strathconon joined with Kinlochluichart and Strathgarve under the name of Contin. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dingwall and later of Chanonry and Dingwall, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Ross. |
