Rev Robert Gordon (1786-1853), minister of St Giles between 1830 and 1843, was born in Old Crawfordton, Glencairn, the only son of James Gordon and Janet McAdam. He was educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen and Edinburgh University, and was licensed by the Presbytery of Perth in 1814. Following his term as minister at St. Giles he joined the Free Church and became professor of Divinity of Free New North Church. The Rev. Gordon was a student of science and the inventor of a self-registering hygrometer. He married Isabella Campbell in 1816. |
