The church of Durris formerly belonged to the Knights of the Order of the Temple and was dedicated to St Comgall of Bangor. A new parish church was erected in 1822. In 1933, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Durris Parish Church was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Durris West. After the local union the former West Church ceased to be used for worship or other church purposes. In 1976 the parish of Rickarton was linked with Durris, this link was however terminated in 1979, and additional links followed between the years of 1981 and 1986 with Banchory Ternan East and also in 1987 with Drumoak. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Fordoun until 1717 when it was severed from the presbytery and added to that of Aberdeen. Following the reorganisation of the presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Kincardine and Deeside. |
