The church of Ashkirk was dedicated to St Ninian and ministry of the session is recorded from 1570 in the person of John Hamilton. In 1961 Ashkirk was linked with Lilliesleaf, and in 1977 with Bowden, both linkages however were terminated in 1983 in favour of a linkage with Selkirk Lawson Memorial. After Selkirk Lawson Memorial united with Selkirk Heatherlie and Selkirk St. Mary's West in 1986 to form the session of Selkirk with Caddenfoot, the link between Ashkirk and Selkirk continued. The linkage with Caddenfoot and Ashkirk was however terminated in 1992. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Selkirk, later of Hawick and then of Melrose, until 1976 and the restructuring of the presbyteries when it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. |
