The pre-reformation church was appropriated to the Priory of Canonbie. Minstry began in 1574 in the person of Martin Elliot, parson and vicar. Initially the session was within the jurisdiction of Langholm Presbytery. By the early twentieth century the session was within the jurisdiction of Hawick Presbytery and by 1976 the session was within the jurisdiction of Jedburgh Presbytery. On 9 December 1604, the session united with Wheelkirk, Ettiltoun and Belkirk. On 29 December 1946, the session united with Newcastleton United Free Church session. In 1952 the parish church closed due to dry rot with St John's, Newcastleton becoming the parish church. On 1 October 1960 the session linked with Saughtree. |
