The church of Ballantrae, Ayrshire, formerly Kirkcubert-Invertig, originally served a medieval parish which was appropriated to Crossraguel Abbey. It was later in the presbytery of Ayr and synod of Glasgow and Ayr, but in 1699 it was transferred to the presbytery of Stranraer and synod of Galloway. The church moved to Ballantrae in 1617. After the union of 1929 it was briefly Ballantrae Innertig, but in the following year it united with a former United Free church (then Ballantrae Ardstinchar) as Ballantrae. It is now in the presbytery of Ayr. Synods were abolished in 1993. |
