It was proposed by the General Assembly in 1581 that a Presbytery to cover this district should be erected at Creiff and in 1593 the seat of the court is recorded as being Dunblane. In this same year however the General Assembly moved the seat to Auchterarder where it remained but for a few ears in the 17th century when the meeting place was once again moved, on this occasion to Muthill. The register of the Presbytery of Auchterarder begins in 1668. Following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 the Presbytery of Auchterarder ceased to exist and the parishes within the Presbytery became part of the Presbytery of Perth. The presbytery formerly sat within the Synod of Perth and Stirling. |
