The parish church of Craig, which was known of old as Inchbrioch or Inchbrayock, was dedicated to St Brioch and the parish was formerly a prebend of Brechin. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1562 in the person of Richard Melville. Craig was united with the old parish of Dunninald in 1618 and the church was rebuilt in 1799. In 1966 Craig united with Maryton to form the session of Craig and Maryton and a further union followed in 1971 with Ferryden under the name of Inchbrayock. Inchbrayock was later linked with Montrose Melville South in 1981. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Brechin and later of Brechin and Fordoun until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, The Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of Angus and Mearns. Following the restructuring of the presbyteries it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
