The old church of Golspie, which was dedicated to St Maliew, formerly belonged to the Bishop of Caithness. The parish was known of old as Kilmalie, as the parish church stood at a location of that name until it fell into a state of disrepair and was as a consequence moved to the Chapel of St Andrew's, which was sited in another part of the parish. In 1936 Golspie parish church was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Golspie Fountain Road. Following the union the parish church was completely renovated and re-opened for worship in 1954. The former Fountain Road church was later converted for use as a church hall.. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dornoch until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Dornoch and the Presbytery of Tongue were united under the name of the Presbytery of Sutherland. |
