The church of Alexandria was opened on the 3rd September 1840 and the parish was later disjoined from Bonhill and erected as a parish quoad sacra in 1866. There also existed a mission chapel of St. Andrews within the parish. In 1958 Alexandria Parish Church, which became known as Alexandria Old, was linked with Bonhill North. This linking arrangement was however terminated in 1975 to permit a union on the same date between the two session under the name of Alexandria St. Andrew's. A further union was establish in 1994 between Alexandria St. Andrew's and Alexandria North under the name of Alexandria. The kirk session, which remaisn active today sat within the Presbytery of Lanark and later of Dumbarton. |
