There was a chapel built at Ladyloan in 1837 and the parish of Ladyloan was disjoined from Arbroath and St Vigeans in 1865 and erected as a parish quoad sacra. In 1941, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Arbroath Ladyloan Parish church was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Arbroath Ladyloan High. After the union the Ladyloan quoad sacra parish church was sold. Arbroath Ladyloan later established a union with the parish of Arbroath St Columba's in 1973 to form the session of Arbroath Ladyloan St Columba's. A further union followed in 1990 between Arbroath Ladyloan St Columba's and Arbroath St Margaret's under the name of Arbroath West Kirk. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of Angus and Mearns. |
