The presbytery was conjoined with Abernethy before 1623 and was known as Inveraven until 1630 until 1632 when the Presbyteries disjoined. In 1645, Aberlour once again became conjoined with Abernethy and the conjoined presbytery was known as either, Aberlour, or, Aberlour and Abernethy. Although conjoined, the Presbyteries regularly met separately as either 'lower' (Aberlour), or, 'Upper' (Abernethy), only holding a conjoint meeting once a year. Between 1690-1702 the Presbytery formed a part of the 'United Presbyteries of Moray', after which period it formed part of the 'Presbyteries of Elgin, Aberlour and Abernethy' until 1707. In 1709 Aberlour disjoined form Abernethy since when it was known simply as Aberlour. In 1719 the presbytery was suppressed, but was re-erected in 1727. Presbyteries have the duty of caring for the well-being of its ministers, and for those who are candidates for the ministry. |
