The church of Roslin was first founded as a collegiate church by William, Earl of Orkney in 1446 and was dedicated to St Mathew. A chapel of ease was later opened in 1827 and in 1834 the Parish of Roslin was declared, by Act of Assembly, as a parish quoad sacra. A number of years later in 1863 it was disjoined from the parish of Lasswade and erected by the Court of Teinds. In 1933, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Roslin Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Roslin St David's. Both churches remained in use after the local union until 1935 when the former St David's church became the parish church and the parish church was converted for use as the church hall. The united charge, which was named simply Roslin Kirk Session, formed a link with Glencorse in 1968. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Dalkeith until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 when it became part of the Presbytery of Lothian. |
