Abbey St Bathans derives its name from its patron, St Bathan, and also from the fact that it formerly belonged to the Abbey of Dryburgh. There existed a church of St Bathan at Yester hence this kirk session was named Abbey St Bathans. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1567 in the person of William Colville, reader. In 1927 Abbey St Bathans was united by the General Assembly with the parish of Cranshaws under the name of Abbey St Bathans and Cranshaws. The united parish was later linked with Longformacus in 1973 and in 1983 a further union was established with Langton and Polwath to form the session of Kirk of Lammermuir. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Duns. |
