A parliamentary church was built in Tobermory in 1828 and in 1845 the parish of Tobermory was disjoined quoad sacra from Kilmore. In 1944, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Tobermory Parish Church (known as Tobermory High) was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Tobermory St Mary's. After the union the united session was named simply Tobermory and the old Parish Church remained in use as the place of local worship. In 1968 Tobermory was linked with Kilninian and Kilmore and further links were established in 1972 with Salen and Ulva, and also with Torosay and Kinlochspelvie. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Mull until 1963 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Lorn and the Presbytery of Mull were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Lorn and Mull. |
