The church of Kinnell was dedicated to St Malrubh and was formerly a mensal church of St Andrews. Ministry of the parish is recorded from 1563 in the person of James Gray, reader. In 1953 Kinnell was linked with Farnell however this arrangement was later terminated in 1967 in favour of a union in the same year with Friockheim, under the name of Friockheim Kinnell. The united session later formed a link in 1983 with Inverkeilor and Lunan. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath until 1953 when it was transferred to the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun, and later to the Presbytery of Angus and Mearns. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
