On the 19th May 1724, the Synod of Glenelg was disjoined form the Synod of Argyll and erected into a separate presbytery by the General Assembly. The register of the Synod, which met at Kyle of Lochalsh, begins on the 7th July 1725. The four Presbyteries that initially sat within the Synod were: Lochcarron, Skye, Uist and Lewis. By the early 20th century the Presbyteries within the jurisdiction of Glenelg had been joined with those of the Synods of Ross and of Sutherland and Caithness to form the Synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. |
