The Presbytery of Lochcarron was erected by the General Assembly on the 19th May 1724 and was originally named the Presbytery of Garioch. The register of the Presbytery begins on the 13th August of the same year. Initially, all the parishes that formed the presbytery, were annexed from the Presbytery of Dingwall, with the exception of Glenelg which was taken from the Presbytery of Lorn. In 1775 the presbytery name was changed to that of Lochcarron. In 1976, with the restructuring of the Presbyteries, Lochcarron came to form part of the Presbytery of Lochcarron-Skye. The Presbytery of Lochcarron formerly sat within the Synod of Glenelg and later of Ross Sutherland and Caithness. |
