Prior to the reformation the church of Clova belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath and Cortachy was formerly a prebend of Brechin. The two sessions were united together in 1618 however the union was later dissolved when Clova was disjoined quoad sacra from Cortachy in 1860. In 1945 Cortachy went on to form a union with Memus, and Clova was united with Glenprosen in the following year. Cortachy and Clova were once more joined together in 1954 when Cortachy and Memus, and Clova and Glenprosen, formed a union under the name of The Glens. The Glens was united with Kirriemuir Old in 1999. The kirk session of Cortachy and Clova sat within the Presbytery of Forfar and the united session of The Glens formed part of the Presbytery of Angus and Mearns and later of Angus. |
