The church of Echt was dedicated to St Finchen and formerly belonged to the Abbey of Scone. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1567 in the person of Arthur Forbes. The present parish church, which was built in 1804, was re-opened and re-dedicated in 1930 following a reconstruction of the interior. The congregation of Midmar was linked with Echt in 1965. Echt Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Kincardine O'Neil, later of Aberdeen, and following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
