The Kirk Session of Newlands was established following the Reformation in 1560. Prior to that, the church was a prebend of the collegiate church of Dalkeith. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1585. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of Newlands became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. In 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. Newlands was linked with Kirkurd in 1962, and united with it in 1984, under the name Kirkurd and Newlands. |
