The church of Crawford belonged to the Abbey of Holyrood and it was dedicated to St Constantine. For the sake of distinction the church was sometimes called of old, Crawford Lindsay and in later years Crawford Douglas. The church was rebuilt in 1670 and this building stood until 1875 when the present church was erected. The ruins of the old building can still be seen standing in the churchyard. The parish of Wanlockhead and Leadhills was linked with Crawford in 1973 and in 1994 the session of Glencaple was formed by the union of Duneaton and Crawford. Duneaton was linked in the same year with Lowther. The kirk session of Crawford sat within the Presbytery of Lanark. |
