It was proposed in 1581 by the General Assembly that the Presbytery of Chirnside be erected, existing registers of the presbytery however only commence in 1690. Chirnside was united with the Presbytery of Duns between the years of 1690 and 1698 and in later years the two Presbyteries were again joined and the name of Chirnside dropped. Chirnside formerly sat within the Synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
