Prior to the reformation the church of Tarves belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath and the church was dedicated to St Englat. Ministry of the parish is recorded from 1567 in the person of Andrew Ogilvie. The church at Tarves was built in 1778. In 1958 Tarves was linked with Barthol Chapel and in the same year the linked session was united with Craigdam, the newly united session remained under the name of Tarves. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Ellon, later of Aberdeen and following the reorganisation of the presbyteries in 1976 Tarves became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
