The church of Arbirlot was dedicated to St Ninian and prior to the reformation it belonged to the Abbey of Arbroath. Arbirlot was linked with Colliston in 1961 and a further link was formed with Carmylie in 1983. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath until by Act of Assembly in 1961, the Presbytery of Arbroath, the Presbytery of Forfar and the Presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun were united under the name of Angus and Mearns. Following the reorganisation of the presbyteries in 1976 Arbirlot became part of the Presbytery of Angus. |
